Rad Tech students shine at state competitions

RWC Radiologic Technology students have had notable accomplishments recently. Timothy Rizzo and Trisha Sparks won the student professional poster competition sponsored by the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists (OSRT). Twelve posters all together were judged by the OSRT Editorial Review Board.

For this contest, all students have to submit references and a brief abstract for their posters. They also must present them at an annual meeting and must discuss their findings with the Editorial Review Board.

The students competed against other students from other colleges from The Ohio State University, Kent Sate, North Central State College, and a few others. During the competition, one of the judges was so impressed by the work of Rizzo and Sparks that he suggested they should publish their posters.

At an OSRT banquet, Rizzo and Sparks were presented a plaque and $50 for their accomplishment.

You can see their posters in Room 310 of the Science and Allied Health Building.

A team of RWC Radiologic Technology students also did well in the Ohio Radiologic Student Quiz bowl, finishing in the Elite Eight of the competition, which is a double-elimination academic bowl. All teams had to compete head to head with a total of 15 questions per round. Three members from each team compete one at a time.

According to Radiologic Technology Department Head Julie Gill, the state competition is intense and full of pressure for the competitors, who must perform before an audience of 200-300 people. This year there were 16 teams total.

This year’s RWC team consisted of Trisha Sparks, Timothy Rizzo, Danny Reiber, Olivia Thoma, Christen Ayers, Kelly Fischer, Megan Taylor and Matt Boehringer.
