Zimpher promises continuity in last RWC visit

Raymond Walters College received a special visit from outgoing UC President Dr. Nancy Zimpher on Tuesday, April 28. In probably one of her last visits to the RWC Campus before she takes her post as chancellor of the SUNY system, Dr. Zimpher introduced incoming Interim President Monica Rimai, who is currently the UC Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration. Dr. Rimai was recently and unanimously elected by University of Cincinnati’s Board of Trustees to serve as the University of Cincinnat’s Interim President beginning June 1, 2009.Since the announcement of President Zimpher’s appointment as the new chancellor of the State University of New York System, many members of the UC community were wondering if the projects that she started were going to continue. The projects fall into six categories:

Performance Based Budgeting. In this the University Administration would like to see more budgeting for transparency and accountability.

University-based Health System for the entire Cincinnati region.

Continue with the Strategic Research Plan.

Continue full steam with the Collegiate restructuring.

Continue to build up the University’s role in the Community Engagement and Outreach programs.

Continue to build up the University’s role in STRIVE. Founded in 2006, STRIVE is a unique partnership involving all groups of Greater Cincinnati society and the University of Cincinnati. Together, the participants in this program are working to help each child in our urban core succeed from birth through some form of college into a meaningful career.

Strive unites common providers around shared issues, goals, measurements and results, and then actively supports and strengthens strategies that work. Strive is focused on home, school and community: the building blocks for successful students, productive citizens and thriving cities. For more information, visit http://www.strivetogether.org.

Under the guidance of the Chair of the UC Board of Trustees, H.C. Buck Niehoff, the UC Presidential Search committee has been formed to begin the extensive search for a new president. The projects that outgoing President, Nancy Zimpher, started have his full support. Collegiate Restructuring and Strategic Research Planning are on the list.

Even though there is a lot of work that still needs to be done, Interim President Monica Rimai and the Board of Trustees are working to continue to make UC one of the top urban research universities in the country.
