The Book
Stephanie Meyer wrote the book “Twilight,” the beginning book of a vampire love story. When I first heard of this book and author, I was skeptical. Since I was a kid, I have always loved vampire stories. The story lines intrigued me. Then when I went to go visit New Orleans with my high school, I was excited with thoughts of “Queen of the Damned” running through my mind. I had heard of this book series and didn’t want to read it at first, because the story line seemed unoriginal and predictable. A friend at work recommended it, however. Then the movie “Twilight” came out, and before I could see the movie, I had to read the book. I was shocked at what I found. I couldn’t put the book down. I found myself reading it at work, and it was filling up all of my free time.
I soon learned to love Bella and Edward. The story line of the book is a bit predictable but that didn’t matter to me. Bella was moving to the town of Forks because her mom’s boyfriend is an active baseball player. Bella reluctantly moves to Forks to keep her mother happy. And just when she starts to think of how bad the town is, she meets Edward Cullen. He resists her and avoids her.
Then a brush with death brings Bella and Edward closer together. She starts to dream about him and then he realizes the fate that lies for both of them. All the while he continues to remind her of how dangerous he is and that they shouldn’t be friends.
Then one day he decides it would be a good idea that she meet his family, and on the journey of family togetherness there is danger once again. Then we are left to discover what Bella’s destiny is and to speculate on the second book of the series.
It was a hard book to put down because you are left wanting to know what was going to happen next, and I would recommend it if you are into love stories as well as some action.
The Movie
“Twilight,” the movie is pretty good. In relation to the book, I would give it two out of three stars. It is pretty accurate as far as the content and the lines are concerned.
Some scenes are a little rushed, whereas the book is more detailed and more is left for you to imagine or to interpret. The action parts in the film are a little more played up, whereas I feel they are a little more graphic in the book.
I would recommend reading the book before watching the movie, however. Once you read the book and then watch the movie, more of the content makes sense. I would recommend this movie as well; it isn’t a movie that you will fall asleep through. You will be left wondering what Bella and Edward are up to after the closing credits and leave you waiting in anticipation for the sequel.
