Tony Malone, RWC Associate Professor of Math, Physics and Computer Science has been named the 13th annual Diversity Is Beautiful Award winner. Professor Malone was presented the award in his classroom on Friday, May 29, by UC Vice President Dr. Mitchel Livingston, with the assistance of RWC Interim Dean Don O’Meara. Dr. Livingston recognized Professor Malone’s dedicated service to educating students at Raymond Walters and to education for over 30 years. Especially noted was his creativity in teaching math, integrating math with his knowledge of many other disciplines. Professor Malone connected math to world realities and while doing so demonstrated an understanding and appreciation for diversity of people and inclusion.
Professor Malone had been nominated for the award by one of his students, who wrote: “[Professor Malone] conveys a genuine sense of caring and compassion toward everyone, equally. He is an example not only to African Americans, but anyone aspiring to achieve professional excellence and integrity.”
The RWC Diversity Is Beautiful Award Committee includes Gwen Dean, Diane Rogers, and Helen Kegler (Sponsor, Multi Cultural Affairs Office).
