My World: Let’s Talk Turkey, or Ham and Swiss.

I’m hungry. What about you? Let’s go get something to eat at the cafeteria. Wait, what time is it? 2:45? Okay, well, never mind. This circumstance has happened to many students and professors at Raymond Walters. If we want to purchase something in the cafeteria, we have to make sure we come in time.

The Ray’s Café has a wonderful supply of food and good variation. Coffee is warm and delicious, breakfast and lunch sandwiches are satisfying, and the salad is crisp. The staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are decent for the food they offer that cannot be purchased at any nearby restaurants.

However, the hours do not offer students or professors many options of when they can purchase the food. While the cafeteria is open for students and professors to purchase food early in the morning and at lunch, any time after that is not an option.

It is not a complete inconvenience or a bother, but considering this is the year of the largest enrollment at Raymond Walters, why not keep the cafeteria open just a little bit longer?

Of course we all can walk or drive to the nearby restaurants, but the cafeteria offers an easy, convenient stop. That doesn’t seem to be a problem until we take into the consideration those who actually have to walk. Walking to the nearest restaurant, as I have done on several occasions, takes at least a half an hour or more. Not exactly what you would call convenient at all.

I’m not asking for it to be open very late or a considerable amount longer, but if it would be open until maybe four, students and professors would be able to purchase food at a better time.

With a flux of many new students that have longer and different schedules, why not consider their time and needs? We have more students attending classes at night or later in the day. Why not reach to meet their needs? It could make more money and help with the very crowded cafeteria.

A couple hours extended, that is all I think we need here right now. In my opinion, it’s a not a huge demand or request, and if something like that would be implemented, it could benefit every student and professor at Raymond Walters, at least when it comes to food.

In the end, this is simply my opinion, and I am quite happy to pack my lunch every day anyhow.
