On Monday, November 9, RWC will welcome new UC President Dr. Gregory H. Williams during his first visit to campus. This is an opportunity for us to share with him just a sampling of who we are and our role within the university. Dr. Williams, who will take office November 2 as the 27th President of the University of Cincinnati, is a noted scholar with a substantial background in academic leadership. He has a strong record in building enrollment while ensuring academic excellence and diversity, and has already noted his interest in strengthening the transition between the branch campuses and the uptown campus as well as growing our access role through increased baccalaureate offerings at RWC and Clermont College.
He has been a university administrator for more than 30 years, with his most recent position as president of The City College of New York. Williams has earned five degrees, including a J.D. and a Ph.D. from The George Washington University, and he holds three honorary doctorates. Author of three books and a number of articles and book reviews, Williams is also known for his award-winning and best selling memoir, Life on the Color Line: The True Story of a White Boy Who Discovered He Was Black.
I encourage you to attend the November 9 event, both to welcome the new president to our college and to mingle with our invited external guests from the community. The reception, which runs from 3-5 p.m., will be held in the conference rooms of the Flory Center and includes a brief program beginning at 3:30. Light refreshments will be served, and there will be plenty of time to socialize.
Because of his focus on student involvement and since this will be his first visit to our campus, it’s important to have a solid turnout of students, faculty and staff. We’ve also invited our partners from the City of Blue Ash, area businesses and community organizations to attend. Please join me as we provide a warm RWC welcome for President Williams.
