New Student Government Looking Forward

On October 21, Interim Dean Don O’Meara introduced all of the members of the RWC Student Government in the Muntz Hall Lobby. Student Government officers for 2009 are President Rachel Landon, Vice President Jennifer Venge, Secretary Alicia Brown, and Treasurer Zoli Bodor. This was the first time in anyone’s memory that a Dean of the College has recognized the Student Government in this way.Dean O’Meara announced that he was “excited” about the upcoming year. He said that he was proud of “the work our new Student Government and student President Landon are doing.” Furthermore, the Dean had high praise for all of the new members, saying they were “friendly and ready to serve the school.”

He added that they will work towards that goal when they meet the new president of the University, Gregory Williams, on November 9.

Dean O’Meara also mentioned that he will be working with the Student Government on whatever issues they find necessary for the student body and the school.

Students were able to meet and greet the members as well following the ceremony.

The following day the Student Government welcomed four new members: Sylvia Bernal, Megan Branhum, Kara Sunday, and Eboni Wilson. Even with these new members, there is still a need for more members. President Landon stated that they still “definitely need new members,” and she asked that anyone interested should visit the Student Government office next to Muntz Room 265 and pick up an application.

Executive members are also in the office to answer questions at certain times; the hours are listed on the bulletin board outside the office.

Landon said that she wants the members to be like “family internally. Not just acquaintance but family, working together for the school and just doing things together for fun.”

President Landon wanted people to know that the Student Government planned to “have fun but also tackle important issues of the students” in the upcoming year.

Both Dean O’Meara and the new Student Government members emphasized that they are looking forward to this year and what can be accomplished.
