Dean Reveals Big Ideas for Improvement

When UC President Williams requested a document of big ideas in academics, Provost Anthony Perzigian created such a document. The Provost also asked the Deans of the various UC colleges to develop their own documents. RWC Interim Dean Don O’Meara produced a list specifically of big ideas for the College. Although it was decided to produce a single document for the University, Dean O’Meara considers the RWC document to be important to the College, and he would like to emphasize the most relevant details to students. Here are the highlights:

“Meet the USO key strategy and the Provost’s related Collegiate Restructuring initiative to enhance baccalaureate education opportunities.”

As stated in the Provost’s recommendations from last year, more baccalaureate programs at RWC would be ideal, the Dean said. Several options include developing new or building upon existing programs at RWC. Moreover, RWC could offer completion programs for Uptown Campuses. Finally, RWC can become a pathway from other regional colleges for baccalaureate degrees, he said.

“Develop and implement a long-range Master Plan for the RWC campus.”

When RWC was up for re-accreditation, several needs became apparent, O’Meara said. One major finding “highlighted the need for more student space.” The College Master Plan now has a goal of improving the space conditions when and where appropriate. Additional space would enhance the mission to improve baccalaureate programs and pathways of success for students.

“Developing an academic emphasis on ‘Green Literacy’ across RWC programs.”

The Dean said this can be developed through all programs with an emphasis on lessening the use of paper and harmful materials.

Dean O’Meara stated that this is not a “document in stone” and encourages students and faculty alike to give him some “solid feedback.
