Message From the Dean: Don’t Miss Out On Scholarship Opportunities

Many students are searching for ways to cover their education costs, and I want to ensure you’re aware of one resource that might help you. Raymond Walters College is currently accepting applications for a variety of scholarships offered through the college. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, more than 52 scholarships worth over $40,000 is available only to RWC students.Unfortunately, each year some scholarships are not awarded due to a lack of applications. Some students mistakenly believe that they wouldn’t qualify, either financially or due to grades, or that the application process would be too cumbersome.

However, I encourage you to take an in-depth look at the scholarships, which are listed on the RWC web site at http://www.rwc.uc.edu/.

This year, we’ve streamlined the process so that all scholarships require:

a resume with employment history and community service;

a typed recommendation letter from a Raymond Walters professor, preferably one in the student’s field of study, who has knowledge of his or her academic performance;

a typed one-page essay describing the student’s experience at RWC, as well as educational and professional goals; and

a statement detailing why receiving an RWC scholarship will help the student attain those goals.

Some scholarships may require additional information, such as a letter of recommendation by faculty, so please check the additional criteria under the specific scholarship. And, while financial need is not a decisive factor in awarding these scholarships, it may be considered in the application process.

While several of the scholarships at RWC are program-specific, many are open to students in any academic program. Awards for full- and part-time students are based on a range of factors, such as academic achievement, community service, financial need and special needs. Also, the amount and requirements for the scholarships vary.

The application form, along with details for each RWC scholarship, is listed on the web site. Note that applications must be in the Enrollment Services office by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 1, without exception.

Please take the time to review the scholarships and determine which ones you qualify for. I think it may benefit you to do so.
