Police Officers Differ From Security Officers

Here at RWC we have two Police Officers and three Security Officers. Some people may not realize that they are not the same thing. Recently UC Police Officer Jeffrey Polly explained the distinction between the two categories to the Activist.

Some differences between the two involve their power, Officer Polly explained. For instance, to become a Police Officer in the state of Ohio, one must complete the Basic Police Officer Certification Academy, which can take up to six months to complete.

While Security Officers have the power to detain an individual, they cannot arrest an individual, whereas a Police Officer can make an arrest.

UC Police Officers also have to qualify once a year with their issued firearms, while Security Officers do not carry a firearm. Instead they train with Police Officers with handling combative situations and self-defense.
