Another fall quarter has come and gone, marking for several students in the Electronic Media program the end of Media Survey. This course is required in order to graduate the program and is meant to give students hands on experience in all fields of media production. Utilizing the experienced staff, weekly guest panels, interview, and community service homework, the class is invaluable in its ability to prepare students for the real media world. Though the interview and community service assignments are feared by even the toughest student, they have time and time again proven not only to be the most helpful parts of the course, but the most fun as well, giving students a chance to talk to industry professionals in a one-on-one setting, and work on genuine productions at volunteer organizations like Media Bridges or Waycross.
If you are planning on taking Electronic Media Survey next fall, don’t be swayed by the thought of community service, and don’t be afraid to interview a complete stranger. These tasks will give you greater understanding and excitement for Electronic Media and precious experience that you will utilize throughout your career.
