This feature student story gives credit where credit is due. Daniel Carper is a 25-year-old sophomore here at Raymond Walters. Daniel is a liberal arts major who wants to finish with a bachelor’s degree in history. His ultimate goal is to go to law school and become a lawyer. Everything you’ve heard about Daniel is normal so far, but this is why he deserves credit. He is the student representative on the search committee for a new Dean of the College. This is a very important job because he is the one person representing our student body in the new dean selection process.
Dan is also the Vice-President of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. This is a selective group to get accepted into, and he was able to become Vice-President. To be in Phi Theta Kappa, you must have a 3.5 grade point average or higher, you must have completed 24 hours of coursework, you must receive an invitation to become a member, and you must meet all of the moral codes that come with being in Phi Theta Kappa.
This is a great accomplishment for Dan, but he has one more that will top that. Dan recently found out he will be receiving the 2010 Raymond Walters College Spirit of Community Award. This is given out to one student on every U.C. campus. Students who receive this award are told, “You are being honored because you exemplify a high standard of contribution to student life both within your college and the campus community.”
It is a tremendous honor to receive an award like this. The committee that chose Dan for this award did a great job because he was the right candidate.
Dan will be presented with this award on May 16 at Tangeman University Center, on the Clifton campus.
Daniel Carper is a hard-worker, high achiever, award winner, and our feature student.
