This April is National Poetry Month, and RWC is celebrating for the second decade in a row. During this time, RWC will hold events for students and the community alike. On April 23 from 10 a.m.-noon, the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company will be performing Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” Although the performance is designed for high school and college students, it is open to RWC students and the general public.
On May 3 from 6-8 p.m. in Room 100 in the Science & Allied Health Building, RWC will host a poetry café, featuring E. Charlton-Trujillo, award-winning author of “Prizefighter en Mi Casa” and “Feels Like Home.” Readings from the 11th annual poetry contest and songs from the 3rd annual songwriting contest will also be a part of this event, and contest winners will be announced. Free food and music are also planned. The Poetry Café is free and open to the general public.
Also, throughout the entire month, poems by RWC faculty and students will be placed around Muntz for viewing.
Finally, RWC is offering poetry and songwriting contests once again this year. For prizes, all winning entries will be published in the Blue Ash Review, and Willis Music is contributing two prizes for the songwriting contest. They are contributing a Sequoia Model 91 guitar with gear bag and free recording time at the Willis Recording Studio in Florence, Kentucky.
Anyone with questions about the Poetry Month and the events is encouraged to contact Professor Rhonda Pettit at rhonda.pettit@uc.edu or call 513-745-8319.
