Message from the Dean: Keeping RWC in Your Life After Graduation

In just a few weeks, many RWC students will have completed their time at the college, finishing degree requirements and preparing for graduation. Whether you decide to continue your education at UC’s uptown campus, attend another university or are pursuing job opportunities, your connection with “Ray’s Place” doesn’t have to end. In 2006 RWC formed an Alumni Coordinating Council to provide unique experiences and support to our alums. The Council works closely with our central organization, the UC Alumni Association. In fact, when someone joins the RWC Alumni Association, he or she is automatically a member of the UCAA as well.

In addition to the benefits that the UCAA offers alums (including access to alumni networks, like In Circle and Linked In; worldwide travel program; alumni-exclusive discounts from local, regional and national vendors; UC Alumni Weekend events and sports-related activities such as football tailgates, pre and post-game rallies, and much more), our Alumni Coordinating Council also plans several events each year designated specifically for RWC alums and their families.

For example, the Council recently held its 5th annual Alumni Celebration and silent auction. This event, which is one of the most popular ones, is a fun time for alums to mingle and financially support the RWC Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. This fund is a great way for alums to show their support for current students.

Another favorite event is the RWC Alumni Day at the Cincinnati Zoo, in which alums and their families can enjoy touring the zoo, an exclusive picnic for our guests and register for a wide variety of door prizes, all sponsored by the Alumni Coordinating Council.

However, the most commonly cited reason for joining the Alumni Association is the connection to other graduates. With more than 15,600 students graduating from Raymond Walters College since the college opened in 1967, the friendships and camaraderie are widespread, with plenty of opportunities for connecting with other RWC grads and for staying connected to the college.
