On May 13, UC Senior Vice President and Provost Dr. Anthony Perzigian announced that Dr. Cady Short-Thompson will be the new Dean of Raymond Walters College effective July 1.Dr. Short-Thompson currently serves as Chair of the Communication Department for Northern Kentucky University but is excited about her new role at RWC. “I am absolutely thrilled and truly honored to be appointed as the next Dean of Raymond Walters College,” she told the Activist in an email exchange last week. “The College is at a critical juncture in its history and I am hopeful, excited, and very eager to start on July 1. Moreover, I am completely confident that the next few years will be highly productive, positive, and full of progress on many fronts.”
The UC alumna earned a bachelor and master degree in Communication from UC and continued by earning a doctorate in Interdisciplinary Studies from the UC College of Arts & Sciences.
For several years, she has served Northern Kentucky University, where she has been a member of the Communication faculty since 1996. Dr. Short-Thompson served as coordinator of the Public Relations program from 2002-2004 as the founding Graduate Program Director in the Communication program from 2005-2008 among many other leadership roles.
She has received many honors, such as the Strongest Influence Award, Spark Awards for Faculty Excellence, Norse Leadership Society Awards, and the 2004 Citizen of the Year of Wyoming, Ohio.
Dr. Short-Thompson expressed a strong desire to serve RWC. “I plan to invest myself in the people of Raymond Walters College,” she said, “learning about them and their programs, goals, ideas and dreams; meeting everyone, and equipping myself to be its best ambassador, advocate, and fan.”
She continued with the hope to expand the buildings and recreation for the growing RWC community. “RWC is clearly under-built,” she added, “and if we are to grow our enrollments and programmatic offerings, we’ll need space to house those new programs and additional students.”
Dr. Short-Thompson stated she hopes to build strong relationships with the faculty to better programs and “tirelessly promote the College, telling the stories of our faculty, staff, and students with the aim of increasing others’ knowledge and their positive impressions of us.”
She wishes students to understand that “students have always been at the center of my work and will remain so at RWC. Simply put, I believe in my students’ futures, the importance of education in their lives, and education’s power to transform not only their lives but the lives of countless others around them in our society.”
Dr. Short-Thompson concluded that she is excited to begin her service at RWC. “I’m a three-time UC alumna, so I’m simply delighted to be headed home after 14 outstanding years at Northern Kentucky University.
