“The Global Lovers,” a poetic drama written by RWC English Professor Rhonda Pettit, has been selected as one of the live performances for this year’s Cincinnati Fringe Festival. The show, which was produced by Piñata Productions, will have five performances during the festival: Friday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 5 at 8 p.m.; Wednesday, June 9 at 9 p.m.; Friday, June 11 at 9:30 p.m.; and Saturday, June 12 at 5 p.m. All viewings will be held at Duveneck 3, located at 1220 Vine Street, downtown Cincinnati between 12th and 13th streets.
The Cincinnati Fringe Festival, now celebrating its 7th season, runs from June 1-12. The Festival is a collaborative organization that highlights local, regional, national and international artists who “push the boundaries of the norm and continually experiment with style and content.” A wide variety of media are featured, including dance, live theater, music, visual art, film, music and poetry.
While most folks would rather not think about, much less discuss sex slavery, Pettit says that once she learned of the plight of sex slaves, she just couldn’t turn her back on them. She was so moved that she penned a collection of poems and in 2008 converted the manuscript to a one-act play.
Pettit has previously held several staged readings of the show but these showings at the Fringe Festival will be the first fully-staged productions.
