eMedia Students Work ESPN Spot

On October 22, RWC Electronic Media students had the opportunity to work alongside media professionals at the UC-South Florida football game at Nippert Stadium. The Department was contacted by Kwokman Productions, LLC about potential students interested in paid positions to assist ESPN professionals with handheld camera and sound equipment and cables along the sidelines.

Four eMedia students participated: Farooq Chan, Tamara Allegra-Smith, Jaeson Jackson, and Richard Castle.

“I could feel the heat of being under the pressure environment,” Chan said. Everything was so fast-paced, and you cannot make mistakes. “You have to give 100% both physically and mentally.”

The students were given vests and TV badges and were part of the utility crew, responsible for keeping a clear path for cameras and maintaining organized cabling.

“Do a lot of volunteering,” Allegra-Smith advised current students. “You can learn a great deal and build on your experience each time. You never know who you might meet when you are out on a job like this.”

After the game, the RWC group attended a social gathering with pizza and networking opportunities.

“My suggestion to young students or aspiring professionals will be that they need to work hard and make people believe in their abilities,” Chan said. “The rest will follow.”
