As a new academic year begins, the Phi Theta Kappa honor society has an active and fun filled schedule for the RWC community. The plan includes having an event each month this school year. “I think all of us at PTK want to make a difference at school and in the community, and we want to have a positive impact on people’s lives,” President Jennifer Kirila remarked. “To me, this positive impact starts at RWC, where we have an opportunity to let people know who we are, cultivate new members, and get anyone and everyone involved.”
PTK commenced their plan with a kickoff at Fall Carnival. The executive members reached out to the student body through a fun-filled game that included prizes but also information about the organization.
Treasurer Mark Van Sweringen stated that he wants to put the face of PTK out there to take responsibility for their role at RWC, as well as inspire and encourage new students as they begin their journey here.
For the remaining weeks of the quarter, PTK has plans for a food drive near Thanksgiving as well as a bake sale. Finalized dates will be announced later.
Members of PTK are encouraged to attend a Pizza Party on November 17. Further information will be sent out at a later date.
One of the biggest goals of PTK is the continuation of their Go Green campaign. Currently they are collecting plastic bags in the Muntz lobby.
“I strongly believe that our role in PTK is to reach out to the RWC community in service,” Vice President Kara Sunday commented. “Through our roles as leaders of PTK, it is our responsibility to better RWC the best way that we can, and in many ways, it is a privilege to us to be able to serve in this way.”
