Two Rad Tech Students Publish Articles in Scholarly Journal

While most students are relieved to be getting out for summer break, Christine Scholz, a graduate of the RWC Radiologic Technology Program, and Elizabeth Hemme, a junior Radiation Science Technology major, were determined to get articles published in the Radiologic Technology Journal. These writing projects merely started out as a two-quarter project. During the two quarters, students had the choice of picking their topics as long as they dealt with legal, ethical, and patient care issues within radiologic technology.

Professor Julie Gill of the RWC Allied Health Department, headed the project and decided to make it a goal to get at least one of her students’ work published. With persistence, hard work, and dedication, Christine Scholz and Elizabeth Hemme were able be published in upcoming issues in the Radiologic Technology Journal.

Since Christine Scholz has graduated and obtained a job at University Hospital, her article, titled “Entertainment Ultrasound: Is it Worth the Risk?,” will be published in the column titled “My Perspective,” which is for people who are no longer students. The column will appear in the March/April 2011 edition of Radiologic Technology.

Elizabeth Hemme’s article, “Dose Reduction in CT,” should appear in the upcoming November/December 2010 edition and will be featured in the “Student Scope” portion of the journal.
