Fashion: Grizzly Grunge

Be kind, please rewind! It’s time to flash back to the 90s and perhaps the most comfortable style ever, grunge. Grunge fashion evolved out of the early 90s music style of heavy metal, hard punk, and indie rock in the Northwest region of the country. The clothing had a thrifty look to it, such as ripped jeans. It also consisted of outdoor clothing, like warm flannels that were a necessity for the winter in the birthplace of grunge. Grunge originally was popular probably to counteract the super flashiness of the 80s.

Sound familiar? A lot of 80s styles have somehow bullied their way back onto the fashion scene. It is only natural that modern grunge has started to creep back into society as well. Plus the grunge style is really cheap, which is convenient in an awful economy-except for those Dr. Martens, which are a tad pricey.

What is the modern grunge look? Plaid is basic, not necessarily large flannel shirts, but a fitted plaid shirt or short skirt. Ripped jeans, relaxed or tight, are absolutely hot for this fad. Unkempt hair-roll out of bed or mess it up on purpose-has a sexy natural attractiveness. Just ask Courtney Love.

Studs anywhere can add a slight modern glam to the look. Last but absolutely not least, boots! Work boots, hip boots-just about any kind will do. As mentioned before, Doc Martens are the best for this look, plus they are high quality and seem to last an eternity. Maybe you’ll still have them the next time grunge is in fashion.

Roll out of bed, throw on those ripped jeans and combat boots, and “Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be,” in the latest grunge fashion.
