Message From the Dean: RWC Begins New Baccalaureate Era

Want to earn an affordable and innovative bachelor’s degree at Raymond Walters College? Want to stay here on the campus that you love, that feels like your academic home? Want to pursue a four-year program that will position you for career success in a variety of workforce settings? Want to enter a program that is flexible for students juggling work and other adult responsibilities? If you do, you’ll want to learn more about our newest program in Applied Management, which begins in the fall of 2011 and is one of our new BTAS offerings. You may have heard a new acronym that will soon become a standard here at RWC: BTAS. BTAS stands for our new Bachelor’s degree in Technical and Applied Studies, and indeed it is worthy of attention: it’s one of RWC’s top academic priorities this year as we ramp up to begin offering the first classes next fall. It also represents a new era for our college as we venture into offering a variety of baccalaureate (bachelor’s degree) programs; it is our second baccalaureate program, joining our technical baccalaureate in Radiology Science Technology, and reinforces our contribution to Ohio’s baccalaureate pathways initiative.

The BTAS is also significant for current RWC students and alumni. The program-a bachelor’s degree in technical and applied studies, which is a major in Applied Management-is designed for students who already hold a technical associate degree, such as an Associate of Applied Science or an Associate of Applied Business. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to take the next step in his or her professional career by fulfilling the course requirements necessary to complete a bachelor’s degree-especially appealing to people who want to move into a supervisory or administrative position.

Think of the BTAS as a pathway that will allow those with work experience to obtain a bachelor’s degree without losing credits from their associate’s degree. The format totals 90 academic credits and is a ‘two-plus-two’ program as students take only two additional years of coursework beyond their associate’s program. Classes would be offered online and in the evenings and during the weekend at both RWC and UC’s other regional campus, Clermont College.

Here’s the best aspect: this unique opportunity offers our students a perfect bridge for their career and educational goals, while also allowing them to stay at here at RWC.

The BTAS is almost ready to launch-it’s already been approved by the university’s Board of Trustees and Ohio’s Board of Regents, and is currently in the final approval stage at RWC’s accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). While it’s still too soon to officially enroll, don’t let that stop you!
