What’s the first word that comes to your head when you hear the word “baby”? Is it abortion? It is for me. Abortion has always been a sensitive topic. I agree with abortion, because I’m a firm believer that mistakes truly do happen. Very few women get abortions just because they don’t want the baby. Through research I found it can be a hand full of reasons, such as rape, religion and financial stability. When asked about the debate, many people will say abortion is a heinous crime and ask how anyone can kill her own child, but at the same time it’s ultimately the woman’s choice.
Put yourself in her shoes! Do you know what it’s like feeling depressed? Having to worry about how people will look at you if you abort the baby? Or whether they will think of you as a murderer?
Should a woman keep her child because she’s afraid of what people will think of her? Absolutely not! In this day and age you have teenagers who think it’s okay to get pregnant as if it’s a trend, but as teenagers what are you to do when you’re brainwashed by popular T.V. shows and movies promoting teen pregnancy such as “16 and Pregnant” and MTV’s “Teen Mom.”
Honestly, I’m disgusted by shows like that. I feel like they’re saying it’s okay to be pregnant at 16-18 in high school, as long as the baby’s father is around. To me, it’s sickening.
According to www.abortionno.org, “52% of women obtaining abortions in the U.S. are younger than 25: and the number of abortions per year worldwide is approximately 42 million.” How can we reduce the percentage from those statistics?
Did all those women get abortions because they couldn’t take care of their babies? Probably not. Maybe they could have if they had the right help. Who knows?
Should women abort babies? Maybe not. Do they have the right to? Yes! Although you may think that if you don’t want to get pregnant then you should use protection, but according to “Abortion: A Positive Decision,” by Patricia Lunneborg, there are other factors to consider.
Lunneborg asks, “What are we supposed to do when our birth control method fails? When the cap fails, the pill fails, the condom fails?” She has really strong points. How can you argue against that?
I guess the people who are against abortion would suggest adoption, but not every woman wants to go through the pain of delivery. So what’s the alternative?
I leave you with one question: are you for abortion?
