It’s Showtime for Video Studio Production

Having taken the Electronic Media course “Video Studio Production” last year, I decided to visit this year’s class and see how the rehearsal for their UCTV program was developing. There is very little need to worry: the set was essentially completed, the cameras and lights were thoroughly mapped out, the crew was confident and eager to accomplish all of their tasks, and the overall atmosphere was exactly what student producer Heather Noe had hoped for: “trendy yet classic.”
Every year during the Winter Quarter, the students enrolled in Video Studio Production have one major task: to create a television show that can be feasibly produced in a studio environment for UCTV. In previous years, the students developed programs that review movies, telecast thumb wrestling, teach college students how to cook, and promote local singers and songwriters. This year, the show is “Avaunt Artist,” and according to Producer Heather Noe, “the goal is to feature local Cincinnati artists and their work, and to inform the viewers about where they can go to see great artworks and even take classes.”
The series will consist of two episodes: one featuring urban wilderness photographer Marc Wavra, the other featuring watercolor painter and instructor Bruce Neville.
“Avaunt Artist” will be recorded on March 5 and March 11, and the completed episodes will air on UCTV during the evenings and on local access channels on Saturday mornings.

Recording a studio television series is one of the most unpredictable and difficult things that media producers could do, but the crew behind “Avaunt Artist” is handling the challenge quite smoothly and cohesively. Producer Noe describes her colleagues as: “.extremely helpful and willing to take on any tasks handed to them. They are a great, creative, and humorous group of people.
