Many applicants applied for the annual scholarship called Annie Fitzgerald Award for Leadership and Service. However, only one would receive the top scholarship of $2000 (and two would win the $1000 scholarship) based upon their involvement as well as their leadership in their service to the community. This is what led to RWC’s own Haley Fritz to claim the top scholarship of $2000. The scholarship will take effect the fall of next year, as Fritz will continue as a student here in the Office Information Technology program. The winners of the $1000 scholarships are unknown.
The applicants had to write an essay of no more than 1000 words about their community involvement. In addition, they had to have two letters of recommendation/reference as well as a resumé.
RWC Professor Heather Phillips, in her recommendation letter, called Fritz very dedicated to her volunteer work. “She even developed her class project around volunteerism encouraging her fellow students to become active in their communities,” Phillips wrote.
On May 17, there will be a Celebration of Service for the applicants. It will be at 5 p.m. in the Stratford Heights Banquet Hall.
