Rad Tech Student Chosen For National Program

The RWC Radiologic Technology Program announced recently that Sarah Bleh, RWC student and Radiologic Technology major, has been picked to be a part of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) 2011 Student Initiative Program. The ASRT is comprised of more than 139,000 members who perform radiation therapy treatment and medical imaging procedures. The organization also aids students in the radiologic science field, providing them with service, support and any tools they might need in order to prepare for upcoming careers in the field or radiation therapy and medical imaging.

Bleh was one of 62 students selected from more than 180 entries in the “Welcome to Your Future” essay writing competition. Participants were asked to write essays (ranging from 500 to 700 words) about one of the three following topics: why they chose the radiologic science profession; what being a professional means to them; or what they hope to gain from attending the annual governance meeting.

These essays were judged on the authors’ commitment to the pursuit of their field, as well as several other factors.

Winners, including Sarah, will embark on an all expenses paid trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to attend the ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting. This will take place from June 16-19.

They will also be a part of an educational program held at the Symposium, created especially for students. Students will be paired with a professional mentor while at the House of Delegates event.

“We are excited that Sarah was selected to participate in the Student Initiative Program of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists,” RWC Radiologic Technology Professor Tracy Herrmann said. “It shows great dedication to our profession that she pursued this opportunity.”

ASRT Predisent, James Temme, M.P.A., R.T. (R) (QM), FASRT, says that “the Student Initiative Program is a great way to get radiologic science students involved in the ASRT early in their careers. While in Albuquerque, students will have the opportunity to meet with veteran radiologic science professionals, participate in education activities and get an in-depth look at how the governance process works for the world’s largest radiologic science organization.
