Internet Review: Linkedin Provides Useful Tool

As we approach the end of our school year, there are certain tasks required of us. Depending on your degree, you will need a resume, portfolio, and other tools to help you land a job as soon as you graduate. It is said that employers are increasing their recruiting efforts through online resources like Facebook and Twitter. One of the more popular and efficient sites to help you succeed is Linkedin.

Similar to Facebook, Linkedin is a more professional approach to gaining a large network. In your profile you can list your education, job history, expertise, contact information, summary, and more. This creates your profile into an advertised resume.

There are many great tools you can use within your profile. When you register your work experience, you will enter your employer. Most employers already have an account registered on Linkedin. Once you finished a work experience, you can now connect with all employees who have registered with the same employer. This can expand your network by connecting with more users. And gaining more connections broadens your network and thus may lead you to a potential job.

Another tool is to search for relevant connections within your area. This is very useful to see what all is out there and enables you to increase your connections.

When you gain a large enough network, users can share profiles to other users as a recommendation. This is the most powerful tool to land a job. I was awarded a freelance gig through this particular method. So having a huge list of connections will increase your chances, but you should always connect with quality users over quantity.

I really enjoy using Linkedin. It hasn’t reached its peak, so now is the perfect time to benefit from this free website. The best part is that whenever you get an update, it will send you an e-mail notification. So you will never need to login to look up any updates unless you want to check on your connections status or profile stats, or need to update your profile.

When graduating into a competitive workforce, you will need every tool to gain an edge. And the Internet is your best tool. Don’t just rely on Linkedin though. There are many other great social network sites, job search sites, and tools out there.

What I suggest is to use them all and make sure they are always updated. You never know; your next job could be a click away. Go see for yourself at www.linkedin.com.
