Atmosphere is a rapper/DJ duo hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Upon the release of their new album, “The Family Sign,” on April 12, it was made pretty clear that there was not as much humor in this album as compared to their last two releases. This doesn’t make it any less of a quality addition to their catalogue.
This project features Slug metaphorically touching on themes of fatherhood, loss, love, disappointment, and jubilation, while focusing heavily on interpersonal relationships and the range of emotions and complexities that inform them.
“The Family Sign” is a heavy, moody album, and Slug and Ant did an amazing job of piecing together what the album should sound like and the thoughts and emotions it should convey. I have been a fan of Atmosphere for years and probably will be for several more.
This album is nothing short of genius. Anyone who knows of Atmosphere needs to add this album to their collection. If you haven’t heard of them, let this be a recommendation to listen to one of the best albums of the year.
