After months of surveillance by the C.I.A., Osama Bin Laden was finally killed. So why aren’t we all out celebrating? The original plan was to bring him here to the States. During the struggle, though, Bin Laden was killed. His body was subsequently deposited into the ocean, after being wrapped in a proper white sheet for burial according to Islamic custom.
The question I’ve heard around campus is whether this is just a conspiracy to regain Americans’ faith in their government. All of this controversy is over the fact that they won’t show the picture of him after he was killed.
Here’s what I think:
Okay, I can see where there might be controversy and concern over the fact that his body was not brought back here, and there are no videos or pictures of him dying or dead. All of this may seem a little sketchy. But, honestly, America would never stoop to that level.
Where they see it fit to post pictures of our dead men or send us videos of them being killed, we have a little more class. We just royally pissed off Al Qaeda by killing their leader. By showing his picture, we would only further their hatred for us.
Obviously, someone will attempt to fill Bin Laden’s shoes, most likely unsuccessfully. We have killed Al Qaeda’s leader, and we have nothing more to prove to them. By doing this we have shown them that no matter who tries to take his place we will get them and the next successor until they, finally, just stop trying.
And that’s how Sarah sees it.
