An Action-Packed Book For All Ages

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is quickly gaining popularity among people of all ages. Its movie version that is about to be released in March has created such a buzz among people that it has sparked an interest in the book, and rightly so. It is categorized as a young adult series because its more simplistic writing, but people of all ages have read it and loved the intensity.

The Hunger Games is the first book in a 3-part series. It is a story about a futuristic America called Panem that is poor and run by an evil government that hosts an annual event called the Hunger Games. There are twelve districts in Panem and from each district, two children, called Tributes, ages 12-18 must be randomly selected to compete in the games. The only way to win these games is to be the last one left alive. This is the government’s way of keeping its people in line.

When the main character, Katniss, sees her younger sister is selected to compete in the games she automatically volunteers herself to compete. The story follows Katniss through a suspenseful journey to the Panem’s Capital and into the games, all the while keeping up a romance with her fellow district Tribute, Peeta. The story keeps you reading for hours wondering if Katniss can battle the many injuries she faces and if the romance between her and Peeta could keep them both alive. The Hunger Games is a very quick read packed with intense fight scenes and heartbreaking moments that has left many readers in tears. This will be an easy book to read before the release of the movie on March 23.
