Memorial Day

For me, Memorial Day isn’t just about honoring soldiers, but of remembering loved ones that have passed. Although it is the first real holiday for summer, filled with barbeque and parties, it is also nice to visit cemeteries of ones we’ve lost and think of great memories we shared.

This year Memorial Day was very special to me. I actually know someone that is in Afghanistan right now fighting for our country. He is my boyfriend’s best friend and I have gotten to know this young gentleman for over a year now. He puts his heart into what he does, and I thank him every day for it.

I didn’t get to enjoy my usual parade experience that I do every year with my mom, grandma, my best friend and her family because I worked all day. But we had a special day at work for Memorial Day and I got to look back and reflect on everything and everyone who has served our country. I am more than thankful for these young soldiers that fight for our freedom.

The night of Memorial Day I was able to enjoy a fun family cookout with my family, my best friends and their families as well as with my boyfriend. We cooked out, played games, and it was nice knowing that I had people in my life that support me, just like we support our troops. I can’t wait to see Colin (my boyfriend’s best friend) when he gets back from Afghanistan to just know that he is okay. It’s amazing how it changes your life.

Thank you to all our veterans and current soldier’s serving today!
