Feature Student: Chasing the Art of Hip-Hop

UCBA student Halim Abdullah, otherwise known as Kama, has put himself to the test this year.  As he starts his freshman year of college, he works a part time job as a sales associate and has started a full time music career.
The latter is what really separates him from other college students.  He has a dream to become a signed hip-hop artist.  His free time is spent writing music and recording in the studio.  His love for music is what has inspired him to get into the industry.
He is a big fan of Wiz Khalifa and uses Wiz’s music, fame, and success as personal inspiration. Kama started writing lyrics as a hobby, and he found himself recording at studios throughout the Cincinnati area.  His friends and classmates really enjoyed his songs, which motivated him to continue chasing his dream.
He is well aware of the chances of making it. It really is one in a million in the music industry, but that doesn’t stop him.
In his free time he enjoys going out with friends and drawing. He was a varsity football player at Mason High School and was also involved with the lacrosse team, in addition to being an honor roll student very involved with school activities.
He describes himself as a creative and unique individual willing to sacrifice sleep to provide himself with more time to work. “Music is the only thing that allows me to share my thoughts to the world,” Kama said, “and if I love listening to it, why not make some of my own?”
To date, he has three songs released and has just recently begun learning how to produce his own songs.  His first mixtape, “Believe The Hype,” is scheduled to be released sometime this winter.  If you would like to hear any of his music, follow him on Twitter at @__Kama__.
