Library is Getting a Major Makeover

According to Library Director and Associate Senior Librarian Heather Maloney, the renovated UCBA Library will re-open sometime during summer 2013. A formal college wide announcement will take place with an official date as the renovations become complete, Maloney said.
While renovations are in progress, the Library is located in Muntz Hall Room 112K at the back of the computer concourse. Once the renovations are complete, the Library will return to its original location across the hall.
The new Library will feature eight study rooms, five more than before. These rooms can be used for group work or individual studying. The old food and drink policy will be reinstated, so patrons will be able to take in securely closed beverages and food.
There will be a balance of quiet and collaborative work space as well as lounge space. Additionally the number of pay to print printers will be increased from just one to three. One will be located in a new quick print area featuring three computers and stools designed to get in and out quickly when needing to print documents.
“I hope this will help students get the documents they need printed when they are in a hurry,” Maloney said, “especially during high traffic times of day from 11-1.”
The computer work area will feature desks that are large enough for two to three people to work together. There will be extra chairs at the end of each computer bank, which can be used when working with someone else.
The hallway book return access will once again be available. When the Library is completed, it will resume self-service access to book collection media and journals.
Finally, when UCBA students were surveyed regarding their ideal Library, they hoped for more natural light. The new library will feature more windows to allow lots of natural light.
“I am confident that once the library re-opens students will help us take care of it,” Maloney said.
