Writing Center Offers Many Resources

For students who haven’t heard about all that’s going on in the UCBA Writing Center, it is definitely something worth checking out. The Center has a wide range of tutors dedicated to assist with writing, reading, and study skills.
Through the writing tutors, students can bring in a writing assignment in any discipline and receive professional help, which involves learning how to brainstorm, understand the assignment, and outline, among other things. This improves a student’s critical thinking, rhetorical awareness, grammar, punctuation, and skill in research.
With the reading tutors, students learn how texts are constructed, and they improve their reading strategies to understand college-level texts. They also can improve their vocabulary, as well as thinking skills, so they can conduct their own research.
Through the Study Skills tutors, students can receive help in most academic subjects. Tutors teach students how to acquire study skills through interactive workshops like time management, note-taking, managing test anxiety/stress, and improving memory, among other things.
Resources are also offered to ESL students.
The Writing Center is located in Muntz 324, with hours on Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., on Fridays 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and on Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled with the individual tutor of choice through Starfish on Blackboard. Walk-ins are also welcome.
