Legislation approved by the President is expected to accelerate surveillance drone use in the United States.
On Thursday, the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 was signed by President Obama. According to Federal Aviation Administration’s AnneMarie Ternay, the bill contains “requirements for integrating unmanned aircraft systems and vehicles such as drones into the national airspace starting immediately.”
Already, cities in over 30 states are showing interest in a program that will establish test sites where drones will be tested.
Drones are scheduled to be flying regularly above the United States as early as the end of 2015, and by the end of the decade, over 30,000 drones are expected to be in the sky above the country.
