Criminal Justice to Tour Lucasville Prison

On March 13, students in UCBA Professor Marilyn Simon’s Criminal Justice classes will be given the opportunity to take a tour of the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Southwest Ohio.
The prison is called Lucasville, and it is one of the few maximum security prisons in Ohio. Lucasville is known as the death house, where all death row inmates are executed.
It is also the home of the Ohio Prison Industry (OPI), a program where the inmates make footwear for those in Ohio prisons.
Simon said that this is a huge opportunity for students studying in the UCBA Criminal Justice program to learn the environment of a maximum security prison.
The trip is sponsored by the Behavioral Science Department. Students will be traveling by a bus, so there will be no need to carpool, and the bus will be returning between 3-3:30 p.m. A stop for lunch will take place while on the trip, but students will be responsible for the cost of lunch.
Students in Professor Simon’s Criminal Justice classes are free to sign up, but there is only room for 45 students. It is first come, first served. For more information, contact Professor Marilyn Simon at (513) 936-7141 or email marilyn.simon@uc.edu.
