This spring, the UCBA Behavioral Science Department will be offering a new course to be taught by Dr. Todd M. Callais.
The course, titled Pop Culture in Society: Special Topics in Sociology, will be covering various facets of popular culture, such as production, distribution, form, contents, artists and audiences.
One objective of the course will be to address questions such as the following:
How do the social arrangements and technologies of production shape the messages conveyed in popular media?
What is the relationship between pop culture and “high” culture?
Does pop culture distract people from the struggles of equality and social justice, and when can it inspire?
