Atlanta Defies Expectations

The Atlanta Hawks, an NBA team in the Eastern Conference from the Southeast Division, set a franchise record this year for most consecutive games won in a season.

Breaking the previous record by five more games than ever before, the Hawks recently had an outstanding run of a 19-game winning streak, which is the best in the league this season.

The team had only lost three games out of their last 36 after a 115-100 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans that ended the win streak.  “We’ve got a lot of season left,” said Paul Millsap, Hawks power forward, when he was asked to put the recent winning streak in perspective.  “Nineteen games, that’s good.  We lost one—19-1 now.  So it’s just regrouping….We can’t let one loss turn into two losses.”

Before the season began, the Hawks were given very small chance of winning the Eastern Conference title this season.  However, following the 19-game streak, the probability escalated to an outstanding 97 percent chance of winning.
