What is the Activist: Brett Cummins Reflects

For this final issue of the semester, members of the Activist staff reflect on the paper’s role at UCBA.

The Activist is the news on campus. It is how students find out general information dealing with upcoming events, activities, and student life.

As a student, I like writing and I have a strong interest in journalism and because of this, the class almost dosen’t even seem like work to me. As a person I like informing people, I like for people to hear my voice, and I like for people to know my opinion on subjects.

To participate in the paper means to have responsibility of bearing the news for other students and faculty. It’s your job to express concerns, warnings , and information about what’s going happening on your campus.

Journalism plays the same role in society as it does at UCBA. The only difference is that there’s a much larger audience. Journalist in our society have to be even more aware of current events and a lot more persuasive.

Writing for the Activist lets me know how the university is compared to other universities. As human beings we like to compare. You want to know if your school is just as legitimate as any other if not more.

Next semester, I look forward to going back to handing out paper pamphlets. Even though we are in a digital era, it seems that people at UCBA aren’t going to go looking for the Activist online.

I don’t really have a farewell message for you because you’ll definitely beThe Activist hearing from me again but until then. Stay beautiful.
