The Business Professionals of America (BPA) student organization competed at the BPA state competition in March 2001 held at Wright State University-Lake Campus with students in other Ohio colleges. Students participated in the following competitive events: Web Page Development team, Basic programming, Access, Excel, Keyboarding, Integrated Office, Legal Procedures, Parliamentary Procedures, Computerized Accounting, Fundamental Accounting, Verbal Prepared II, and Desktop Publishing.
The following students attended the state competition from RWC: Jerry Brefol, Ron Brunner, Rebecca Fehr, Ronetta Fields, Erin French, Priti Jain, Pooja Malholtra, David Michaels, Ratna Pati, Geetha Shanker, Kelly Stohr, and Josh Wallace. Nine RWC students qualified to go to national competition. Josh Wallace was elected President of the Ohio BPA state organization.
The National BPA Competition was held in Anaheim, California, on May 9-13, 2001. The following students competed: Jerry Brefol (Basic Programming), Ron Brunner (Web Page team), Rebecca Fehr (Desktop Publishing), Priti Jain (Access), Pooja Malhotra (Web Page team and Excel), David Michaels (Basic Programming and Excel), Ratna Pati (Access), Kelly Stohr (Integrated Office Applications and Legal Office Procedures), and Josh Wallace (Desktop Publishing and Verbal-Prepared II).
The students competed with over 800 other college and university students at the national conference. As president from Ohio, Josh Wallace represented Ohio in the opening session, as well as at other meetings at the conference. Students and advisers participated in the Microsoft MOUS certification tests and passed in Access and Excel.
Students had the opportunity to hear the John Alston, the keynote speaker and nationally known for appearances on the Oprah Winfrey and other national television shows. He took them on a thoughtful journey exploring the realities of a changing and turbulent world. Students also had the opportunity to interact with their state leadership team, as well as students from other universities and colleges.
