International Week to showcase foreign films

International Week is November 13-17 on all of UC’s campuses, with many activities on the RWC and Uptown campuses, including a chance to win a trip abroad. To win entrants must first complete a “UC Passport,” getting it stamped at many events and locations throughout the week and then sending it in to qualify for a drawing to determine the winner. To pick up a passport, stop by the RWC Foreign Language Lab, Muntz 350, or pick one up at any event.

On Monday, Nov. 13, there will be a featured speaker, Reza Aslan, author of the book “No God, but God,” about the Islamic Religion. This book has been chosen for the RWC Faculty Book Club this month. The event will take place at the Uptown campus. A free bus ride is available from the RWC campus for all RWC students and staff, but priority is given to students first. The bus will leave RWC at 6:45 p.m. and the presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Nov. 14, there will be a German film, “Murders Are Among Us,” from 7-9 p.m. in SAHB 100. This film was the first made in Germany after WWII. The event will be hosted by Professor Debbie Page.

On Wed., Nov. 15, there will be a French film hosted by Professor Judy Baughin. The film will be “Elevator in the Gallows,” Director Louis Malle’s first film. The show will last from 7-9 p.m. in PAV A 100.

Also on Wed., between 11 a.m and 2 p.m., there will be Study Abroad information tables throughout RWC, with information on all the 2007 RWC study abroad programs.

Thursday’s film will be a Spanish production, “Adio Kerida,” a Cuban film hosted by Professor Debbie Themudo, from 7-9 p.m. in SAHB 155.

A week long event, “Dia de los Muertos Exhibit,” will be in the Foreign Language Lab, Room 349B and 350 Muntz.
