Riverbank Poetry Project to host famous beat poet

On Saturday, November 18 at 7 p.m., the Riverbank Poetry Project in Hamilton is bringing world famous poet Anne Waldman to town to perform some of her “beat” poetry. This event will be held at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts in downtown Hamilton, 101 S. Monument Ave. Admission is usually free for Riverbank Poetry events, but for this event in particular there is a $10 admission fee.

This is an event that doesn’t come by often. According to John Kraimer, RWC Director of Disabilities Services and Poet Laureate of the Riverbank Poetry Project, Waldman is a top class poet who has performed all over the world with a myriad of impressive names, like Allen Ginsberg and Gary Snyder.

She’s won a number of renowned awards for her poetry, including the Dylan Thomas Memorial Award, the Poets Foundation Award, and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts.

Waldman also founded the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado, with Allen Ginsberg.
