RWC has been celebrating National Heritage Hispanic Month since September 15 with a variety of activities. On Oct. 11, RWC was scheduled to host featured speaker Dr. Jorge Vasquez, who was to address the problems experienced by local Hispanics in satisfying their healthcare needs. However, Dr. Vasquez was ill, and the event was postponed until a later date to be announced.
According to Helen Kegler, RWC Director of Multi-Cultural Affairs , Dr. Vasquez has first hand experience working with Hispanics as a dentist in Price Hill for almost three years. He accepted a position to work for the City of Cincinnati at the Price Hill health clinic in 2004, after having worked as an associate for a dentist in private practice.
In the last year he has been involved with the Hispanic community through his work with the Health Department and local organizations such as Su Casa and Santa Maria, in promoting and providing services and aid to the Hispanic community.
From October 2-15, the RWC Library displayed an array of books written by Hispanic authors and/or about the Hispanic culture. And on October 11, Montague’s Caf offered a Hispanic Combo with taco salad and a drink.
