The results of the winners from the UC Student Writing Contest are in, and RWC students did very well, according to RWC Professor Marlene Miner. The contest was open to all students in UC English Composition classes, and prizes were awarded on Thursday, May 25, in the UC Faculty Club.With her essay “Gender and Sexism in the Workplace: The Poverty Factor,” Shirley Smith, a student of Professor Louise Flavin, won First Place in the English Composition 101 category.
Fariba Massah, a student of Professor Rita Kumar, received 101 Honorable Mention for her essay, “The Culture of Dance.” Missay Hudak, a student of Professor Tami Phenix, also received 101 Honorable Mention for her essay “Painting Orange Squares on a White Canvas,” as well as English Composition 102 Honorable Mention for her essay “Beyond Nine to Five.”
Brian Ross, a student of Professor Phil Luther (101) and Nathan Singer (102), also received double Honorable Mention awards with their essays “Burying My Fathers” and “Kurt Vonnegut (by Kilgore Trout)” in 101 and 102 respectively.
