Smith and Jones get Distinguished Alumni awards

On April 28, RWC held the Distinguished Awards ceremony, honoring distinguished faculty, staff, and alumni. Robert Smith III and Clifford Jones were the two alumni honored this year.Robert Smith III is currently in China, working on a new plant that will make components for aerospace, automotive, and medical equipment industries. His title with TSS Technologies in Xiamen, China, is Director of Operations. His responsibilities include plant design and layout as well as staffing and capital investment financing.

Smith was in the first group of RWC’s students in the Weekend Degree Program in the Spring Quarter of 2001. Smith received his degree in the fall of 2002 and continued to further his education by receiving his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Management from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Arts & Science in 2004.

Clifford Jones was the first male to graduate from the RWC Dental Hygiene program in 1984. Clifford has been the Dental Health Consultant and Program Coordinator of the Health Care for the Homeless project through the Greater Cincinnati Oral Health Council since 1991.

Jones’ responsibilities are that he coordinates and provides dental health care, education, and community outreach to educate homeless people and upgrade their health care. For more than 15 years now, Jones has been part of Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless. While part of this organization, Jones has held the leadership offices such as Secretary and Co-Chairperson. Jones has also been the first male and only the second RWC graduate to be President of the Ohio Dental Hygienists’ Association. While Jones was President, the Association helped pass an Ohio legislative bill that allows dental hygienists to administer local anesthesia.

In 2000, Clifford received the Association’s Outstanding Effort Award and its Gail Benninger Member Scholarship Award.
