Chanel, Gucci, Betsey Johnson, Michael Kors..These are some of the biggest names in fashion today. All known for their off the wall, inspirational runway work. They keep us up with the latest trends and fashions. But what is one thing all of these designers are falling behind on? The green scene. That’s right, going green is the new black.
Many clothing companies are making huge strides to join this eco-friendly craze, making their clothes more environmentally friendly. Move over Coco Chanel. Your little black dress may have just met its match.
Companies are now using fabrics such as organic cotton. It is grown without pesticides and animal products. You won’t find any itchy man made materials in these clothes. Slowly but surely these clothes are showing up in stores we all frequent. Much to my surprise, Anthropologie, Bloomingdales, and H&M are on this small list. Three of my favorite stores!
Large brands such as Levi are even following this new trend, and people are noticing. Bono, from the band U2, paired up with designers to start his own clothing line, Edun. All of the products are completely organic, as well as not produced in any sort of sweat shop.
Stella McCartney (daughter of Beatle Paul) is also coming out with a line of “green” handbags (which are adorable by the way.) Eco-friendly accessories are becoming just as popular.
The only downfall to this new found way of living is cost. Until companies figure out how to make green more cost friendly, these clothes are a little pricier than what we are used to. As they become more and more popular, the prices should become more reasonable. But I don’t think that paying a little extra cash for clothes that are not only saving mother earth but are super cute as well is too much to ask.
Now more than ever our planet needs us. So who wouldn’t want to save the earth and look fabulous while they do it?
