Latin American Culture Fest

Eat, dance, shop, and learn! Though Hispanic Heritage month has just passed (September 15 – October 15) there are still plenty of opportunities to learn about the culture as the Cincinnati Museum Center presents “Latin American Culture Fest”; part of their Passport to the World series. The festivities will run November 1-2 and feature interactive cultural experiences from Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Cuba and Panama.
The rotunda of the Museum will fill with the sounds of Latin musical groups such as Salsa Caliente and the colorful sights of the Cuban conga parade as well as festive Hispanic dancers. In addition, a group of students from UC will be there to display a Dia de los Muertos alter and samples of the Day of the Dead bread (pan de muerto) will be available each day after 1 p.m.
Visitors will learn first-hand about the Latin American Culture through interactive activities such as crafts, music and games in the Cinergy Children’s museum. Meanwhile, in the Museum of Natural History and Science you can participate in programs about “Ojo de Dios” made in Mexico and Bolivia and make pi¤atas in celebration of Latin American Culture.
The Latin American Culture Fest is free and open to the public, except the activities that are located inside one of the museums, which are subject to general admission. Most of the displays are in the rotunda, as are the Latin American vendors so there will be plenty of free things to do for the budget challenged student.
And don’t forget to get your passport stamped, because once you have received 3 stamps (from their 5 culture fests throughout the year) you will receive a free ticket to a Cincinnati Museum Center attraction!
