The RWC Faculty Executive Committee is currently working with representatives from UC’s Uptown campus and Clermont College, as part of a process expected to lead to collegiate restructuring of the University. Professor Ed Bradel, Chair of the RWC Executive Committee, said that he is hoping for a positive outcome from this process. In order to help the collegiate process along, the Faculty Executive Committee is forming four shadow committees to help research the relationship between the campuses. The committees are the following:
Models, Mission, Administration and Governance
Programs
Finance
Space and Technology.
These committees will be meeting February 20 in SAHB Room 100 from 2-6 p.m. to further discuss goals and main objectives.
The objective of the Models, Mission, Administration, and Governance Committee is to identify different models from other campuses and to see what would work for our campus.
The Programs Committee is to determine what type of four-year programs should be implemented at the regional campuses.
The Finance committee is designed to determine how we are going to be able to fund this collegiate restructuring.
Finally, the Space and Technology committee has been formed to determine how we are going to accommodate any possible additional classes, while also exploring whether there is any technology that we will need to update during this process.
All of these committees are comprised of students and faculty to allow opinions and concerns from each point of view to be brought to the table for discussion and solutions.
Professor Bradel remains optimistic about the process. “The ultimate goal,” he said, “is for the restructuring to benefit the student body.” He also explained that this restructuring will not result in any financial increase for students.
He did make it clear that this is going to be a process that will ultimately take time, but will benefit students as a whole and should be better for the whole University of Cincinnati community.
The RWC Executive Committee is working with UC Clermont College Faculty Senate through this restructuring process, and together these two groups have developed tentative goals for the process, which include the following:
1) That any restructuring plan will affirm and enhance the special role of the regional campuses in undergraduate education at the University.
2) That any reorganization will significantly enhance the relationships between regional campus students and faculty with the Uptown campus, without damaging the sense of community at each regional campus.
3) That any restructuring plan will affirm the role of the regional campuses in providing affordable, open access to quality University of Cincinnati courses and programs for all residents of Ohio.
4) That any reorganization will continue to value the emphases placed by the regional campus faculties on quality undergraduate teaching and scholarship that reflects their distinctive missions, in matters concerning reappointment, promotion, and tenure.
