Movies: I hold a grudge against this movie

In the spirit of Halloween, I’ve been trying to base the movie reviews this quarter upon so called “scary” movies. That is, of course, disregarding the last issue’s review on “Employee of the Month.” In keeping with the tidings, I decided to go see “The Grudge 2.” In the words of our local Channel 9 newscaster, John Matarese, “Don’t waste your money!”

There is definitely no mystery as to why it was ranked eighth this week on USA Today’s top 10 movies at the box office. Even though it’s a sequel to “The Grudge,” it might as well be the first story just re-written mildly.

The plot is based on a young female, played by Amber Tamblyn, facing the same unsolved curse that distressed her older sister, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Just like her sibling, this young woman tries to figure out why and what exactly is happening in the city of Tokyo.

She is repeating the exact same plot her sibling had in the first movie. Can we say pathetic? Even if the movie replaced its actors and actresses, it would still hold no hope.

This story reminds me of a bad rendition of The Ring, you know, a creepy myth that turns into reality yet never gets solved. The phrase beating a dead horse fits this movie perfectly; they should have stopped after seeing the first movie’s reviews.
