If your tests grades are suffering, don’t panic; there’s still hope for the final. Not only does the College Study Skills and Reading Center offer superb help in testing, but it’s absolutely free to students. Professors can vouch for the effectiveness of these review sessions. Professor Lesta Cooper-Freytag from the Biology Department states, “The most important thing my students can do to improve their test-taking skills is to take advantage of the test review service. It has the potential for showing them immediate positive results.”
Upon your request, a study skills professional will actually send out a request to your professor to have your previous tests, along with the answer keys, sent to the lab.
According to Paula Spievack, they will be kept there, “under lock and key,” until your scheduled appointment time to go over them. You and a trained professional will team-up to analyze your answers and to teach you how to sharpen your test-taking skills.
They will go over your notes with you to see if the information was in there and perhaps you were just ill-prepared for the test, or if the strategies that you are using during the test are simply not working for you. Either way, Spievack is confident that the outcome of your next test will show some improvement.
With finals fast approaching, appointment times will fill up fast, Spievack says. Stop by Room 112K Muntz in the back of the Computer Concourse or call 745-5730 to make an appointment.
