Fashion: Lindsay Lohan, Fashion Icon?

While some of us are still trying to figure out what this fall’s trend actually is, Lindsay Lohan has been busy creating a trend of her own. Internationally known French fashion designer Emanuel Ungaro hired Lohan to be the “artistic advisor” for his new fall line this year. Because of the recession, designers are resorting to hiring celebrities to contribute to their lines in order for them to stay in business. Ungaro wanted Lohan to put a “cooler” spin on his clothes for today’s shoppers.

The line was shown in Paris during fashion week at the Carrousel du Louvre. Unfortunately, Lindsay’s line of clothes got mixed reviews and some bad comments. When Lohan walked the catwalk to take her bow at the end of the show, she had tears in her eyes that onlookers think were not ones of joy. Designers called the clothes “dated and cheesy” and “a hot mess.”

The line included sequin jackets with pink hearts, skinny leggings, and bright colors on all the clothes. Apparently the clothes didn’t make up for the fact that seeing Lohan walking down the runway before and after the show was a big insult. Many designers were offended that Lohan would even try to dip one toe in the fashion world, given her background.

Over the years Lohan went from the hard working Disney actress we all know and love to a crazed party hopper. She’s been in and out of rehab, partying all night long, accused of stealing from photo shoots, and not showing up to film sets on time.

Apart from her rocky past, designers didn’t think she was even the least bit qualified to help design a line for such a big name. People felt that Lohan was only part of the project because of her social status and not her experience with fashion. However, designers do send their share of odd clothes down the runway all the time, so were the designs really that bad or was Lohan just another victim of fashion snobbery?
